Scottish Taekwondo has seen a number of female athletes succeed over the years and what’s more exciting is there is the new generation breaking through. Camran Taekwondo, who have classes in the Coatbridge, have a strong female squad who are certainly making their mark on the competition circuit. This weekend they head out to Portugal for their second international competition of the year and hope to bring back the medals and gain even more valuable experience. The Camran girls had a successful international start to 2015 in Barcelona at the Open Internacional. Megan McNally took the gold and the best cadet fighter and Ellie McCormack took silver in the Senior division even though she has only just moved up to the Junior division. The girls have joined their team mates Lauren Campbell and Rhiannon Innes in attending regular extra training sessions with seasoned female athletes from Caledonian Taekwondo. Scottish national team athlete Laura Sweeney has welcomed the athletes at the club “Its been great having the girls at the club training its fantastic having so many girls to spar with and the improvement all the girls have made this year has been amazing, they really are hard working and tough opponents. What’s even better is that they will go back to their club and share all their competition experience and help bring the next generation of girls through.”
